My main interest is in minerals from England and Belgium.
Although I started with a slag locality in Belgium (Sclaigneaux
1 and
2) and
Wanlockhead (Leadhills, Scotland) I’m feeling
best when I am underground in an old mine somewhere in England or Wales. Some examples are
fe.
Cligga Mine, Killham Mine (Cornwall), Bwlch Glas Mine in Wales or the
Nenthead Mines in Weardale.
Once I have found my “little hole” on a dump
and “I’m feeling cozy” it is difficult to tear me away from it. I simply search
my way through the dump until I’ve found whatever is to be found, resulting in a
terrific “local” collection.
Some of my favorite
Cornish localities are
The Phoenix United mine dumps (Linkinhorne, Liskeard),
Gunnislake Clitters (Callington) or the
Wheal Drea dump near St. Just. For Wales
I must mention the different dumps near the Nant-y-Moch reservoir and the
Llangynog mine dumps.
